Several Arab countries, including Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain and Yemen, on Sunday condemned a missile attack that struck Erbil in northern Iraq.
Voicing solidarity with Iraq, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry condemned "in the strongest terms" the missile attack that targeted Erbil.
Earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for Saturday's strike in the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), saying the missile targeted Israeli facilities in the region.
Meanwhile, Jordan described the assault as a “terrorist attack.”
The Bahraini Foreign Ministry in a statement "denounced the missile attack on the city of Erbil" and expressed "full support for the Republic of Iraq in all the measures it takes to maintain its security and territorial integrity."
The Yemeni Foreign Ministry decried "the terrorist attack that targeted the security and stability of Iraq."
Nayef Al-Hajraf, the secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), also condemned the assault, describing it as a “terrorist attack.”
Arab League’s Secretary-General Ahmed Abuol-Gheit, for his part, voiced "full support for the Iraqi efforts in confronting such criminal acts that targeted Iraq's stability and security."

As clashes with Russian forces continue across Ukraine, work is underway to evacuate civilians to the relatively more secure capital Kyiv from areas nearby.
Of the civilians evacuated from areas including Bucha and Irpin, those who have no family or friends in the capital either seek refuge at schools or travel to the western part of the country, which is safer.
Many of the elderly have been placed in schools in Kyiv, where volunteers provide food and other necessities.
One of these is School No.115, a kindergarten in the eastern part of the capital accommodating evacuated civilians.
Fifty civilians, most of them older people, are staying here after they had to leave their houses with just a few bags of luggage in tow.
Olya Marchenko, a 73 year old woman evacuated from the Pushcha-Vodytsya area near Kyiv, said her town had been heavily shelled.
"As a result, I, my son, and my grandchild had no choice but to flee and seek refuge in Kyiv," she said.
Teary-eyed, she said her town was targeted when the war began and that they had to stay in primitive shelters at first.
"The shelling destroyed half the houses in my village. There was no electricity or natural gas."
Struggling to recount the difficulties she suffered, Marchenko told Anadolu Agency that she had nobody in Kyiv and nowhere to stay.
"I had to leave the house, where I spent my life, in just two minutes," she added.
Marchenko, along with millions of other Ukrainians who had to leave their homes, were uprooted as a result of the war with Russia that broke out on Feb. 24
More than 2.6 million Ukrainians have so far fled the war-torn country, according to UN figures, with a great majority taking refuge in neighboring countries.
At least 564 civilians have also been killed and 982 injured in Ukraine, according to UN estimates./agencies
Thousands of people took once again to the streets in downtown Berlin on Sunday, rallying against Russia's war in Ukraine.
Young and old were among the demonstrators, as well as families with children.
Some held balloons in blue and yellow, the colors of the Ukrainian flag, while others had peace signs in their hands.
Some of the protesters were carrying self-written banners that read "Stop War", "Peace", "Where is the vaccination against war" as well as insults against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Hundreds of police officers were on duty while the mood at the demonstration was peaceful.
An alliance of organizers made up of trade unions, churches, environmental protection initiatives, and peace groups had again called for the protests across Germany.
The slogan of the demonstration was: “Stop the war. Peace and solidarity for the people of Ukraine.”
More anti-war demonstrations were also reported from Hamburg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Leipzig.
On Feb. 27, three days after Russia launched a war on Ukraine, hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated in Berlin and several other major German cities.
Germany has been the scene of mass anti-war protests in recent weeks in the wake of the war.
Tens of thousands of war refugees, mostly women and children, from Ukraine have arrived in Germany.
Since the Russian attack began on February 24, 122,837 people have come to Germany from Ukraine, the Interior Ministry announced on Saturday.
However, since there are no fixed border controls at Germany's borders, the number of war refugees entering the country could actually be significantly higher.
According to the UN, more than 2.5 million people from Ukraine have already sought refuge abroad. Most initially stayed in neighboring countries.
Berlin reacted to the Russian war in Ukraine by drastically increasing its military spending.
Germany is committing €100 billion to a fund for its military and will raise its defense spending above 2% of its gross domestic product./agencies

Iran on Sunday claimed an overnight attack on what it said were "Israeli" facilities in the region of Erbil in northern Iraq with precision-guided missiles.
In a statement on Sunday, the public relations wing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for Saturday's strike in the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), saying it came in response to last week's Israeli attack in Syria that killed two IRGC members.
The IRGC warned Israel that it would face a "harsh, decisive, and destructive response" if such strikes continue, vowing to avenge the Syria strike.
In the statement, the IRGC said the attack that occurred late at night targeted [Israel's] "strategic center of conspiracies" in Erbil.
It underlined that the security of Iranian nationals was "the red line" of the country's armed forces.
In a statement on Sunday, the KRG's counterterrorism unit said a dozen ballistic missiles that hit Erbil after they were launched from outside the country.
It said the attack was "directed from the east," targeting an affluent neighborhood in the direction of the US consulate, adding that there had been no fatalities.
Separately, the KRG Interior Ministry announced that one person was slightly injured as a result of the missile attack.
Some buildings and houses were also damaged in the attack, it said.
"Numerous attacks in Erbil tonight were carried out with missiles and none of the missiles hit the new US Consulate in Erbil, which is under construction," Lawk Ghafuri, KRG's head of Foreign Media Relations said on Twitter.
"However, the areas around the campus were hit by missiles," he added.
Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw had earlier told Erbil-based broadcaster Rudaw that there had been a terror attack against the US Consulate.
The two IRGC members slain in the "Israeli" strike on the outskirts of the Syrian capital, Damascus were identified as Col. Ehsan Karbalaipur and Col. Morteza Saeednejad.
"Without a doubt, the Israeli occupation will pay the price for this crime," the IRGC said after the incident.
The prime minister of northern Iraq's Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) condemned the attack in Erbil.
In a post on the KRG's official Twitter account, Masrour Barzani said: "Erbil will not bow down to cowards. I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on several places in Erbil."
Moreover, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said on social media that the attack targeted the safety of the people, adding that officials would launch investigations on the attack.
Kadhimi added: "Our security forces will investigate this attack. We will resist attacks targeting the security of our cities and the well-being of our people."
Turkey on Sunday also condemned the attack.
"Such acts aiming to disrupt peace and stability in Iraq are totally unacceptable," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement./DS

Armenian members of an illegal armed unit periodically fired at Azerbaijan Armed forces stationed in the Khojavand and Tartar regions using minor arms, Trend News Agency reported Sunday, citing Baku’s Defense Ministry.
Azerbaijani Army units subsequently took adequate retaliatory measures after coming under fire, and haven’t suffered any losses of military personnel and equipment.
The situation in the region is stable, added the statement.
Relations between the former Soviet republics of Armenia and Azerbaijan have been tense since 1991 when the Armenian military occupied Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Upper Karabakh, a territory internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, and seven adjacent regions.
During a 44-day conflict that started in 2020, Azerbaijan liberated several cities, 300 settlements, and villages that were illegally occupied by Armenia for almost 30 years./aa
Former US President Donald Trump said Saturday that the situation in Ukraine will get worse, claiming Russian President Vladimir Putin would not stop his war.
"This could lead to World War III," Trump said during a rally in the state of South Carolina. "I see what’s happening. Because if you think Putin is going to stop, it’s going to get worse and worse. He’s not going to accept it and we don’t have anybody to talk to him."

Sierra Leone's foreign minister on Saturday said the fact that Africa is not being represented in the UN Security Council is a “historical injustice.”
In an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, David J. Francis said that the forum has met the expectations by 100% and called it a "huge success."
The three-day high-level event in the resort city of Antalya has brought together participants from 75 countries, including 17 heads of state, 80 government ministers, and 39 representatives of international organizations. Anadolu Agency is the forum's global communications partner.
"The Antalya Diplomacy Forum is a forum for world leaders. You bring world leaders in the political, diplomatic, economic and academic sector to share ideas on how to develop innovative diplomacy to address the problems that we face – from climate change to conflict resolution, to war and peace, and to development issues," he said.
About the panel he attended on recording democracy, Francis said that "now is the time for all the regions of the world to support Africa."
He called on all global actors to "lead the debate for the reform of the United Nations Security Council."
Noting that the UN Security Council has five permanent members and 10 non-permanent members, Francis said that 70% to 75% of all the issues discussed in the governmental body revolve around Africa.
He lamented that no African country is represented in the UN Security Council.
"That is historical injustice," he stressed and added that the African Union "made a determination" on the issue by appointing Sierra Leone as the chair of the African Union Committee to lead talks on reforming the UN Security Council.
“So, at this recording diplomacy forum, I made a call that it is not good to just come and talk. Let us translate our talking into actions," he said.
Francis also cited Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's opening remarks at the forum.
Erdogan on Friday reiterated his call to reform UN Security Council and to make it more representative, a cause he has long championed using the motto: "The world is bigger than five."
"He (President Erdogan) alluded to the fact that in the current Ukraine crisis, 141 states voted. But it takes only one to veto action on that," Francis said.
The foreign minister further noted that Sierra Leone has "global ambition to be able to lead and champion the reform of the United Nations Security Council on behalf of Africa."
Relations between Sierra Leone, Turkiye
Francis said that Sierra Leone shares "very long standing and cordial bilateral relations with Turkey.”
"The political and diplomatic relations have been friendly. At the bilateral level, we develop trade and commerce investment opportunities between the two countries, but at the political level, and this is important, we've developed a very strong personal political relationship between the two heads of states," he said.
“The first ladies of the two countries also have very close relations," he added.
At the level of the Foreign Ministry, Francis said, he and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu "have developed a very close and strong relationship."
"So, in terms of the political-diplomatic front, we have very credible relationship. Now we've decided to build on the political and diplomatic relationship to develop what we'll call economic and development diplomacy, focusing on trade and investment," he stated.
Describing the Western African country on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean as "the most beautiful country in the world," Francis said that it is the "land of investment opportunities."
The country, which has about 7 million population, is a "very peaceful and progressive country," according to the top diplomat.
"Sierra Leone, according to the International Peace Index, is the fourth most peaceful country in Sub-Saharan Africa. So, you can come to Sierra Leone as it's a tourist destination and lots of foreign nationals come in and they feel secure and at peace and enjoy the ambiance with beautiful beaches across the country. We have about 400 kilometers (249 miles) of beautiful beaches," he said.
Aside from tourism, Francis said: "We have opportunities for trade and investment in the agricultural sector and in the mining sector."
"Sierra Leone has strategic and abundant mineral resources," he said, naming some of them, including diamond, gold, bauxite, and iron ore.
Stressing that his country "is the place for new opportunities for the mining sector to come in for trade and investment," Francis also drew attention to the "tremendous opportunities whereby the business establishment in Turkey can come and do good, that is helpful to the country, while making profits. So, it's a win-win situation."
Recalling Sierra Leone's aspiration to get a middle-income status in the next 10 to 20 years, Francis said: "We want to learn from Turkey. When you come to Turkey and you travel across Turkey. You see the advancement in infrastructure. I am very impressed with the technological and infrastructural advancements."
He said Turkiye’s Karpowership is "providing two-thirds of our electricity generation in Sierra Leone, particularly in the capital," and the SUMMA Group is "currently constructing new airport terminal."
Middle-income status
Francis explained that Sierra Leone is no longer defined by the history of war, by the history of Ebola, and rather it is "a resilient, dynamic, enterprising, vibrant country."
"Before the Ebola epidemic in 2014, Sierra Leone was one of the fastest-growing economies in the world with economic growth rate of 21%," he said.
However, "the progress to achieve that stage (of middle-income status)" was affected by the Ebola outbreak in 2014, according to Francis.
Noting that his country’s government is focusing on "human capital development," he said: "There are three pillars of human capital: education, health, and agriculture. Today, Sierra Leone spends 22% of our GDP purely on education. In fact, we are in the top five countries in the world that allocate more resources to education."
"With this massive investment in education,” he said, some 2.5 million children in the country are receiving free education.
He also noted that Sierra Leone has managed the COVID-19 pandemic "very well."
"The Ebola epidemic created social consciousness for the people to work with the government, and to comply with the social distancing and health hygiene protocols," he said.
Continuing on by saying that the country is now moving into the post-COVID period, Francis said: "Our focus is on strengthening the health system because it is important."
"We will definitely achieve the middle-income status in the next 10 to 20 years. I have no doubt," he added./aa
