A total of 34 children, the youngest of whom was 5-month-old, have been killed in Zionist’s attacks on the Gaza Strip since Monday.

Palestine’s Health Ministry confirmed that at least 34 children were killed and the youngest of them was a 5-month-old infant.

On May 10, 15-year-old Mohammad Saber Ibrahim Suleiman and his father were killed instantly by a Zionist drone-fired missile while they were working on their agricultural land outside the city of Jabalia. Doctors at a hospital in Jabalia, where Mohammad’s body was transferred, reported that there were shrapnel wounds all over his body.

In a subsequent incident, a rocket -- a source of which still unknown -- killed eight Palestinians, including two children. Sixteen-year-old Mustafa Mohammad Mahmoud Obaid was killed in the blast and 5-year-old Baraa Wisam Ahmad al-Gharabli succumbed to his wounds later in the day.

A third blast in Beit Hanoun on the northeast edge of the Gaza Strip that occurred the same day killed six Palestinian children as well as two adults.

Cousins, 10-year-old Rahaf Mohammad Attalla Al-Masri and 2-year-old Yazan Sultan Mohammad Al-Masri, and brothers, 6-year-old Marwan Yousef Attalla al-Masri and 11-year-old Ibrahim Yousef Attalla al-Masri, along with 11-year-old Hussein Muneer Hussein Hamad and 16-year-old Ibrahim Abdullah Mohammad Hassanain were among those killed. The al-Masri family was killed while reportedly harvesting wheat in a field outside their home with their children playing nearby.

The following day, Israeli airstrikes killed at least three more children, with warplanes carrying out hundreds of attacks on densely populated civilian areas across the Gaza Strip.

Fifteen-year-old Lina Iyad Fathi Sharir and both her parents were killed when an Zionist warplane completely destroyed a two-story residential building with two missiles fired on Gaza’s Al-Manara neighborhood.

Sharir’s 2-year-old sister Mina is currently in critical condition with third-degree burns at Shifa Hospital.

Two more Palestinian children -- 4-year-old Zaid Mohammad Odeh Telbani and 13-year-old Hala Hussein Rafat Rifi -- were killed in an overnight Israeli airstrike in Gaza, when an Zionist warplane targeted the Salha residential building in the Tal Al-Hawa neighborhood.

The same attack killed Telbani’s mother Rima Telbani, who was five months pregnant. His 2-year-old sister Miriam is missing and is presumed dead.

Seventeen-year-old Bashar Ahmad Ibrahim Samour was killed the next morning near the Gaza perimeter fence in Abasan Al-Jadida. Israeli forces, deployed on the opposite side of the fence, shot Samour, who was working as a farmer and connecting irrigation pipes at the time.

Hamza Mahmoud Yassin Ali, 12, was struck by shrapnel from a missile fired by an Israeli drone in Gaza City’s Shuja’iyya neighborhood on Tuesday. He succumbed to his wounds on Wednesday morning at the Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

Another missile fired from an Israeli attack helicopter hit Hamada Attia Abed al-Emour (13), Ammar Tayseer Mohammad al-Emour (10), and Elyan Moneer Ibrahim al-Emour (12).

Hamada and Ammar died on the spot. Elyan, who was struck with shrapnel in the abdomen, has been in critical condition at Khan Younis’ Nasser hospital since May 13.

Another airstrike killed Yahya Mazen Shehada Khalifa, 13. The airstrike hit an auto-repair shop on Gaza's main roadway of Salah al-Din, injuring dozens and damaging many houses.

A 3-year-old toddler, Muhammad et-Tanani, along with his three siblings, Ethem (4), Emir (5), and Ismail (6), were killed in Khan Younis.

An only 5-month-old infant Muhammed Zeyn el-Attar, and his siblings Islam (5) and Emire (6) were killed in attacks in the Best Lahia region.

A 2-year-old, Ibrahim ez-Zentisi, and Our ez-Zamili, whose age has not been specified, were murdered by Israeli elements.

Zacharia Allus (17) fell victim to the attacks in the Jabalia region.

Rashid Ebu Ara (16), Said Ude (16), and Zeyf Fadil Muhammed Kaysiye (17) also lost their lives in West Bank.

According to data from Palestine’s Information Ministry, over 3,000 children have so far been killed in Zionist’s attacks on Palestinians over the last two decades.

Zionist continues to target Gaza with heavy bombardment, which has also caused heavy damage to residential buildings across the enclave.

To date, nine Israelis have been killed in the recent violence -- eight of them in rocket attacks, in addition to a soldier killed when an anti-tank guided missile struck his jeep.

US President Joe Biden administration's silence and terming Zionist aggression on Palestinians as self-defense has led to massacres in Palestine, said a Palestinian government official on Friday.

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, the spokesperson of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, denounced the US position on Zionist attacks in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, according to the official Wafa news agency.

Zionist entity is "waging war against the Palestinian people, their land and their holy sites," said Abu Rudeineh, and warned Zionist entity is "dragging the region into a situation that no one can bear the consequences by harming the interests of the region and the world."

He once more affirmed that Palestinians "will never give up or abandon their land, Jerusalem, and the holy sites," and that "patience, will, and the historical struggle of the Palestinian people have thwarted all conspiracies for more than a hundred years."

"Palestine and Jerusalem will remain greater than all of them, and peace and the relationship with any party will not be at any price, and the interests of the Palestinian people, their rights, and the preservation of our national constants will remain the destination of our movements and policies," he added.

Abu Rudeineh urged the Biden administration "to actively intervene to stop Zionist entity's relentless onslaught if it is interested in regional and international peace and security."

Zionist forces in recent days have attacked Palestinians protesting in solidarity with residents of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem, who were ordered to be evicted by a Zionist court.

The occupying forces also raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque during special night prayers in Ramadan.

The subsequent escalation of tensions resulted in airstrikes by Israel on Gaza, killing over 120 Palestinian citizens, including children and women, according to health officials. At least 920 others have been injured, besides heavy damage to residential buildings./aa

Four people in the UK who contracted the Indian variant of the coronavirus have died, a government body reported on Friday.

The deaths occurred between May 5 and 12, according to the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), a government body that advises the central government in emergencies.

The deaths are believed to be the first domestic fatalities of the highly contagious mutation.

“We’ve seen further clusters of the B.1.617.2, the variant first observed in India, we’ve seen it especially in Bolton, Blackburn with Darwen and some other parts of the country. At this stage, there are some important unknowns. We believe this variant is more transmissible than the previous one,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a statement.

“The good news is that so far we have no evidence to suggest our vaccines will be less effective in protecting people against severe illness and hospitalisation. So that means we are in a different position from the last time we face a new variant before Christmas because of the scale of our vaccine roll-out,” Johnson added.

There are growing concerns over the spread of the virus strain in various parts of the country and there are fears it could force the government to delay the reopening of the country despite its insistence that the lockdown will come to an end. As of May 12, over 1,300 cases had been detected.

On Thursday, SAGE members convened an emergency meeting to discuss the spread of the Indian variant and agreed to allow surge testing and vaccination in areas of the country that have significant numbers of strain cases in an effort to combat and contain its spread.

“We will flex the vaccine programme according to the clinical advice. Even if you get your first dose now it’ll take two to three weeks before that protection is in place and it begins to affect transmission rates, which especially among the younger cohorts is what’s important to break the cycle of transmission,” said vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi in an interview with BBC’s Radio 4 programme.

“That is the way we break this cycle. People need to take advantage of those free PCR tests, two tests a week of lateral flow to find out whether you’re positive and get your PCR test after that, that’s what’s really important,” Zahawi added.

However, despite the concerns over its spread, the department of health has said there is no firm evidence to prove that the mutation poses a direct to the efficiency of vaccines or has an impact on the severity of other diseases.

The UK is set to enter its third stage on May 17 of the government’s roadmap out of the third national lockdown where a number of freedoms will be tested including two households meeting indoors and restaurants reopening indoor dining.

On Friday, 2,193 people had a confirmed positive test of the virus. Seventeen deaths were also reported within 28 days of testing positive. Between May 8 and 14, there were 70 deaths within 28 days of testing. This shows a 13.6% decrease in comparison to the previous week.

Over 36 million people were administered their first dose of the vaccine by the end of May 13 with over 19 million people now having received the second./aa

The UN said Friday it estimates around 10,000 Palestinians have had to left homes in Gaza "due to the ongoing hostilities" amid an Zionist offensive.

"They are sheltering in schools, mosques, and other places during a global COVID-19 pandemic with limited access to water, food, hygiene, and health services," UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in a statement.

"Hospitals and access to water and sanitation services depend on electricity, the fuel for which will run out on Sunday," it added.

The office said Zionist authorities and Palestinian groups must immediately allow the UN and its humanitarian partners to bring in fuel, food, and medical supplies and to deploy humanitarian personnel.

"All parties must always adhere to international humanitarian and human rights laws," it added.

The office reiterated the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres's call for immediate de-escalation in Gaza and Zionist entity.

At least 122 Palestinians, including 31 children and 20 women, have been killed, and 900 others injured in the ongoing Zionist offensive against Gaza.

Zionist entity continues to target Gaza with heavy bombardment which caused heavy damage to residential buildings across the enclave.

To date, nine Zionists have been killed in the recent violence -- eight of them in rocket attacks in addition to a soldier killed when an anti-tank guided missile struck his jeep.

Tensions have been running high in the Sheikh Jarrah area in occupied East Jerusalem over the past month as Zionist settlers swarmed in following a court order for the eviction of Palestinian families in the area.

GOKWE, Zimbabwe

A 61-year-old woman, Loice Dzivakwi, bragged about how she built her home from cotton proceeds, how she educated her children through cotton farming, and how she became a breadwinner when her husband became incapacitated after falling seriously ill when he worked in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city, decades ago.

After her husband Raymond Mufi was seriously injured at work, he left his job and headed back home to Gokwe, an area of Midlands province famed for cotton farming.

Even after her husband died last year at the age of 81, she continued to grow cotton, something she has done for decades on end and had been a pillar of financial support for her husband even when he was employed.

“I built this home using money from cotton, sent my children to school using money we got from selling cotton for years,” Dzivakwi, a mother of three surviving children, told Anadolu Agency.

One of her children died three years ago.

No more joy in cotton farming

But that is now history, as Dzivakwi and many other cotton farmers here have fallen on hard times even as they continue to grow the cash crop.

Yet Dzivakwi has to battle with the burden of looking after her three orphaned grandchildren, left by her late daughter.

Cotton prices have tumbled over the years, and that has meant that farmers, like Dzivakwi, have had to bear the brunt of bankruptcy single-handedly.

What many cotton farmers cling to is the nostalgia of the good old days, when Dzivakwi and many others boasted about making much more money from growing the crop.

A resident of the Mavhulele village in Gokwe South, Dzivakwi said: “These days, growing cotton has meant that I have to contend with lots of shortages of basic necessities at home because on top of being little, the payments meant for us as cotton farmers are taking longer to come.”

“From cotton sales, I get money to buy fertilizer, and I tell you cotton is not paying anymore,” she said.

Once a game-changer

Yet previously, Zimbabwe's cotton, also known as white gold, had financially uplifted many villagers like Dzivakwi and their families.

Prices of the country’s cotton have changed over the years. Before 2018, at a time when the multi-currency system was in place prior to the reintroduction of the local currency, one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of cotton was priced at $1.42 in 2015 and $1.51 in 2017.

With the Zimbabwean dollar now the currency of trade even for the poor cotton farmers here, in June last year, the Cabinet approved a price of $43.94 per kilogram for the 2020/21 cotton marketing season, the equivalent of around 43 US cents then.

Under the arrangement, farmers were set to be paid the equivalent $10 for every cotton bale delivered to merchants, with about 38% of the value of a 200-kg (440-pound) cotton bale then-set to be paid for in cash under the arrangement, while the balance would be electronically transferred to farmers’ bank accounts.

Nothing to celebrate

Now, as the world commemorates World Farmers’ Day on May 14, Zimbabwe’s cotton farmers like Dzivakwi have nothing to celebrate.

Instead, they have sunken deeper and deeper into poverty, even as their fields are a “beehive” of the underpriced white gold.

In fact, some of the cotton farmers here, like Gokwe’s 67-year-old Agness Mhaka, are quitting growing the crop, citing poor returns where a kilogram of cotton has fallen to way below 50 US cents.

But others, like 46-year-old Gibson Shumba in Mwenezi, say he is farming himself all the way to poverty as he has no choice, and in the dry region where he lives, cotton is the only cash crop many can sustainably grow due to low rainfall patterns.

“If I stop growing cotton, it means I will have no alternative cash crop to grow here, even as the money I now get is meaningless. It’s better for me to get that little than nothing at all,” Shumba told Anadolu Agency.

Yet towards the end of last year, Anxious Masuka, Zimbabwe’s minister of agriculture, launched the National Presidential Cotton Input and Tillage scheme, paving the way for some 400,000 households to receive inputs like cotton seeds and fertilizers from the government.

But that has not changed the fortunes of many cotton farmers like Dzivakwi and Shumba.

Middlemen fueling unfair cotton prices

For Zimbabwe’s agricultural extension officers like Denis Chingoto based in Mwenezi, a remote district in the Masvingo Province, the involvement of many middlemen in buying and selling cotton has resulted in unfair prices accumulating over the years.

“You would realize that the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe, which has the mandate to acquire the white gold from the farmers, is poorly resourced and even under judicial management, and therefore the way farmers are paid, is often very slow,” Chingoto told Anadolu Agency.

As a result, he said, “this has necessitated the rise of unscrupulous middlemen who buy cotton from farmers obviously at unfair prices and the farmers just let their crop go because of desperation.”

Late payments harm cotton farmers

Paul Zacharia, the executive director of the Zimbabwe Farmers’ Union (ZFU), the country’s largest farmers' interest organization representing over a million farming households, said payment delays are a serious cause of concern for cotton farmers here.

“Another issue that requires serious attention is about payments to farmers in exchange for their seed cotton. Upon delivery of the seed cotton to a buying point, a farmer should receive full payment, and the payment should be either in the form of cash, mobile money transfer, or bank transfer,” Zacharia told Anadolu Agency.

In fact, according to the ZFU head, “many farmers have not been fully paid for seed cotton delivered last season, and even if they were to be paid now, the time value of money is still an issue to consider.”

As such, Zacharia said much needs to be done to help the country’s struggling cotton farmers.

“Measures must be put in place for farmers to be assisted to value-add (to improve their cotton quality) before they sell their cotton. Value addition should start at the village level to ensure that farmers’ incomes are boosted,” he said.

The Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco), a parastatal, sees nothing amiss about the crisis faced by cotton farmers.

“Farmers have been getting a very good producer price which averaged the US 0.50 cents per kg over the past five years. The price was however increased to $1.75 last year, way above the regional seed cotton producer prices that average US 0.20-0.35 cents,” Victoria Mutomba, Cottco's public relations coordinator, told Anadolu Agency.

The crisis faced by cotton farmers here like Dzivakwi in the country’s Gokwe area has also been aggravated by payments owed to them even from last year’s cotton deliveries to buyers.

Last year alone, Zimbabwe’s cotton farmers were owed 3 billion Zimbabwean dollars in arrears for products delivered in the last season, despite pronouncements by Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube in the 2021 National Budget that he was aware of the problem before assuring farmers that they would be paid their dues.

Cotton production falling

Meanwhile, as cotton farmers in Zimbabwe fall on hard times, cotton production here declined to an all-time low of 32,000 tons in 2016 from 84,000 tons in 2015, and 143,000 tons in 2014, following a decade-long spell of perceived lower prices averaging 30 US cents per kg.

But Zimbabwe cotton farmers are not alone in their battle over unfair prices for white gold.

“Cotton prices have been falling over the years on the international market, meaning farmers depending on the crop either in Zimbabwe or anywhere else in the world have had to slide deeper into poverty,” Douglas Hwadzira, a former Zimbabwean cotton dealer, told Anadolu Agency./ agencies

A prominent Jewish-American activist Ariel Gold called “Israel's” recent attacks in Gaza Strip and Palestine "war crimes" in an interview with Anadolu Agency.

"These are war crimes and Israel is calling them self-defense, but that isn't self-defense," said Gold, who is the national co-director of CODEPINK, a female-based activist group seeking to end war around the world.

"The root cause of the violence that we're seeing are “Israel's” systems of oppression and dominance of apartheid... We need a ceasefire, but to get a real solution, the assistance of apartheid and oppression must be dismantled," she said.

Gold also said the Israeli attacks are "a siege that has created an open-air prison created a situation of absolute desperation," noting the unemployment rate in Gaza is almost 50%.

"Electricity is sporadic, drinking water is not always available safe drinking water, and then of course right now we also have a massive outbreak of COVID-19 in Gaza" she added.

"(Israel) actually provoked this recent heightened violence through approving a series of evictions, which is land theft, ethnic cleansing in East Jerusalem, through attacking Muslim worshippers during the holiest month of the year," she said.

The activist called on Joe Biden's administration to cut off its military assistance for the “Israeli” government while children and residential buildings are being bombed.

"We haven't seen any of that, but it is encouraging that we have these members of Congress that are really putting that out there," said Gold.

“Israel” continues to target Gaza with heavy bombardment, so far killing 83 Palestinians, including 17 children and seven women, according to health officials. At least 487 others have been injured, in addition to heavy damage to residential buildings across the enclave.

Tensions have been running high in the Sheikh Jarrah area in occupied East Jerusalem over the past month as “Israeli” settlers swarmed in following a court order for the eviction of Palestinian families in the area.

LONDON

Britain on Thursday imposed sanctions on al-Kaniyat militia group in Libya for atrocities it has committed in Libya.

“The Libyan al-Kaniyat militia oversaw a 5-year reign of terror until 2020, torturing and murdering innocent people,” Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab wrote in a Twitter message.

“The UK has today imposed asset freezes and travel bans on the militia group and its two leaders. We will hold them accountable for these atrocities,” he added.

In an earlier statement, James Cleverly, minister of state for Middle East and North Africa, said the new sanctions “send a clear message that those responsible for serious human rights violations or breaches of international humanitarian law in Libya will face consequences.”

“The al-Kaniyat militia and its leaders, Mohamed al-Kani and Abdurahem al-Kani, oversaw a reign of terror in Tarhuna, Libya, which included enforced disappearances, torture, and the killing of civilians,” he added.

“The persistent climate of impunity in Libya must be addressed and justice provided for the victims.”

Libya last year revealed a list of suspects related to mass graves discovered in Tarhuna city and areas south of the capital Tripoli. The list contained names of leaders of the pro-Khalifa Haftar 9th Brigade known as al-Kaniyat.

On June 5, 2020, the Libyan army liberated Tarhuna, a focal location used as an operation and supply center by militias loyal to renegade commander Haftar.

Hundreds of corpses were found in the city hospital, a container belonging to the facility, and a water well near the city.

The tragic part in Tarhuna came to light when mass graves were excavated as part of investigations launched by the Libyan government.

The civil war in Libya, which continued since the ouster and killing of strongman Muammar al-Qaddafi in 2011, was exacerbated in 2019 when warlord Haftar, supported by several countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Russia, and France, carried out a military onslaught to topple the Tripoli-based internationally recognized government for control of the North African country.

NAIROBI, Kenya / KAMPALA, Uganda,

Protests were held in cities across East Africa on Thursday to condemn the wanton killings of the Palestinian people by ‘Israel’.

Grand Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje urged the international community to stand by principled parameters for peace in the ‘Israel’-Palestine conflict and facilitate a solution that guarantees a fully sovereign state of Palestine.

He condemned the Palestinian bloodbath and ‘Israeli’ raid of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Across Uganda, several imams used Eid sermons to condemn the ‘Israeli’ raid of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and called for an end to Palestinian bloodshed.

Sheikh Adam Sebyala from the Al-Mustafa Islamic College told Anadolu Agency that the situation "should trigger international response to the Palestinian issue."

Somalia

“Somalia condemns the introduction of the ‘Israel’ forces invading Al-Aqsa Mosque and their attacks against the Palestinian people [who] cannot defend themselves," he said in a statement.

The government called on the international community to act urgently to stop the atrocities being committed against Palestinians.

Hundreds organized marches across Somalia chanting that the Somalis, "stand with Palestine."

Heavy traffic could be seen on roads in Mogadishu as crowds carrying Somalia and Palestine flags marched on the streets.

Tanzania

Netizens on Tanzania’s social media platforms also joined hands calling on the international community to mount pressure on Israel to stop the bombardment in Palestine.

Petrider Paul, a Tanzanian who champions the rights of women and girls and currently a member of the African Union Youth Advisory Council, said: “I stand in solidarity Palestine and join the African Union chairperson H.E Moussa Faki to condemn the bombardments in Gaza. I proudly championed for #PalestinianLivesMatter since 2013-2015 [with] support of the Palestinian Embassy in Tanzania. Global leaders can do more.”

Moussa Faki Mahamat, chairperson of the African Union Commission, condemned Israel's rocket attacks in Gaza as well as violent attacks in Al-Aqsa mosque.

The chairperson said ‘Israel's’ "actions, including the continued forced, illegal evictions of Palestinians from their homes in East Jerusalem, are in stark violation of international law and further heighten tensions in the region, complicating the search for a just and lasting solution."

What is happening in Palestine?

Tensions have been running high in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem since last week when an ‘Israeli’ court ordered the eviction of Palestinian families. The decision was later postponed.

Palestinians protesting in solidarity with residents of the neighborhood have been targeted by Israeli forces.

The occupying forces also raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque during special night prayers for the fasting month of Ramadan.

The subsequent escalation of tensions resulted in airstrikes by ‘Israel’ on Gaza, leaving scores of Palestinians dead and wounded.

International news agencies on Thursday expressed solidarity with Anadolu Agency following violent attacks by Israeli police on journalists in Jerusalem.

"While carrying out their professional duties, four of our reporters sustained serious injuries. Our journalists chronicling the events on the ground while abiding by the principles of journalism are facing a frightening situation," said Serdar Karagoz, the director general of Anadolu Agency, in a letter to other news agencies.

The letter was sent to the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA), the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN), and the Association of the Balkan News Agencies – Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE).

In response to Karagoz's letter, EANA called on Israel "to secure journalists' physical integrity and working conditions even during these hard times."

"The Board of EANA learned that four journalists of Anadolu experienced dangerous situations and injuries during a clash between Israeli police and protesters in East Jerusalem, and strongly calls on authorities to protect their physical integrity and working conditions," the European news agency said.

The agency noted that allowing journalists to perform their duties shows governments and states' "willingness towards transparency and manifest support of democratic values."

"Journalists should be allowed to do their jobs without fear of injury or pressure of any kind," it added.

OANA President CHO Sung-boo, in a letter to Karagoz, said: "It is gravely disturbing and regrettable that Anadolu Agency journalists were seriously injured while carrying out their duties."

"Violence against journalists goes against our shared, cherished values and should never be tolerated," he said, while calling for solidarity to condemn "attacks against journalism."

Additionally, the Board of Directors of ABNA-SE expressed deep concern "over respect for press freedom to provide coverage of events."

"We have learned that some Anadolu Agency journalists have been injured while covering the security forces' assault on worshipers at Al-Aqsa Mosque. ABNA-SE hopes for the speedy recovery of Anadolu Agency journalists and photojournalists," it added.

The international news agency also urged "authorities to allow journalists to carry out their noble mission of covering the truth."

Anadolu Agency, founded in 1920, is a leading global news agency operating across the world. It serves subscribers in more than 100 countries, reaching 6,000 news outlets worldwide in 13 languages every day.

Anadolu Agency is a strong defender of the right to provide and receive information. The agency believes it is a fundamental human right to let journalists carry out their activities freely and in safety.

Targeted on the job

Turgut Alp Boyraz, the agency's MENA news editor, was shot twice by Israeli police in two separate incidents while covering recent events.

Boyraz, a veteran journalist with eight years of experience with the agency, was shot in the foot with a plastic bullet last Friday while covering a raid on Al-Aqsa Mosque's Haram al-Sharif in occupied East Jerusalem. This Monday, he was shot in the leg with two rubber bullets in another Israeli police raid on the flashpoint mosque.

He was one of four Anadolu Agency journalists attacked by Israeli police.
Anadolu Agency correspondent Esat Firat, who has worked for the agency since 2016, and two photographers were targeted on Monday while covering Israeli security forces' attacks on worshipers at Al-Aqsa.

Fayez Abu Rumaila, an Anadolu Agency photojournalist in occupied East Jerusalem since 2018, was brutally attacked by Israeli occupation forces while covering clashes at the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex.

Mustafa AlKharouf, another Anadolu Agency photojournalist who has covered Jerusalem since 2017, said he was hit by a rubber bullet in the chest while providing aid to an injured medic.

AlKharouf said Israeli forces pushed them outside Al-Aqsa Mosque, adding that when he left Jerusalem's Old City and headed towards his vehicle near the wall of Al-Rahma Cemetery, he found a medic injured by shrapnel from a stun grenade.

Thousands of people gathered in London on Tuesday to protest ‘Israeli’ attacks on Gaza and ongoing police brutality at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Protesters gathered in front of government offices at 10 Downing Street in the evening under heavy police presence.

Some banners carried at the rally read “Free Palestine,” “ ‘Israel’ is a terrorist state,” and “Occupation No More.”

Protesters carried Palestinian and Turkish flags while condemning the bombings in Gaza and incidents around Al-Aqsa Mosque and asking the British government to end its support for Israel.

Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was among those who joined the protest.

A group with ‘Israeli’ flags was removed from the scene under police protection following a brief provocation attempt.

The protesting group later marched toward (Israel’s) London embassy in Kensington, where police took precautions with a number of officers, including armed units.

The British government has kept silent on civilian casualties in the region.

“The UK condemns the firing of rockets at Jerusalem and locations within Israel,” Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab tweeted Monday.

“The ongoing violence in Jerusalem and Gaza must stop. We need an immediate de-escalation on all sides, and end to targeting of civilian populations.”

Rising number of victims

The number of Palestinians killed rose to 28 in raids Tuesday by Israeli forces on the Gaza Strip, including 10 children and a woman, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The ministry said the number of injuries had climbed to 152.

The ministry put the number killed at 26 on Monday. One of the children killed was a 10-year-old girl and the others were boys of various ages, according to the ministry.

‘Israeli’ warplanes launched raids beginning late Monday in separate areas of the Gaza Strip in Operation Guardians of the Wall.

The army announced Tuesday that it had targeted 130 sites and assassinated 15 Hamas activists since the start of its incursion in the Strip.

Tensions moved to Gaza after Palestinian factions gave ‘Israel’ a deadline of 1500 GMT Monday to withdraw its soldiers from Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem and release detainees./aa
